Spring and Summer Schools

2023 palaeography summer school at the University of Göttingen
Summer School in Digital Palaeography 2023 poster, designed by Göttingen Institute for Digital Humanities MA student Firmin Forster.

Every year, the Institute for Digital Humanities in Göttingen holds a summer school in Digital Palaeography. It focuses on palaeographical, codicological and critical editing skills. You can find general information about it here.

In addition, we run a spring school. Unlike the summer schools, which are for international students who come to Göttingen, the spring school is for University of Göttingen students only. It gives them an opportunity to spend a week in an archive abroad, experiencing fieldwork and learning about the history and culture of a new place. In 2023, the spring school took place in Vercelli, Pavia and Verona. Students can sign up to the spring school like any other course, although if they have no palaeographical knowledge they need to complete the seminar in Digital Palaeography before they can attend.

“Thank you so much! This was an amazing program that will be invaluable to my research.”
