Anna Dorofeeva, Lecturer in Digital Palaeography

Anna Dorofeeva studied French and German at the University of Bristol before doing an MPhil and a PhD in Medieval History at the University of Cambridge. On completing her PhD she was joint winner of the 2016 Pollard Prize for best article from the Institute of Historical Research in London. From 2015 to 2017 she was a project member of the SFB 1095 “Schwächediskurse und Ressourcenregime” at the University of Frankfurt. She has held a range of research fellowships, including an Irish Research Council Government of Ireland award at University College Dublin, the Zeno Karl Schindler / Barker Priory Library Junior Research Fellowship at Durham University, and an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship at the Free University of Berlin. She has been Lecturer in Digital Palaeography at the Institute for Digital Humanities in Göttingen since 2021. Her first book was awarded the 2020 ANZAMEMS–ARC Humanities Award for Original Research, an AUD 10,000 prize. This monograph is now published in open access as Reading Nature in the Early Middle Ages. Writing, Language and Creation in the Latin Physiologus Manuscripts, ca. 700–1000 (Arc Humanities Press, 2023). She is co-editor of the collected volume The Art of Compilation: Manuscripts and Networks in the Early Medieval Latin West, forthcoming in 2024 with Punctum Books. Her research interests focus on early medieval books and script, particularly the questions of polygraphism and scribal identity, as well as on computational methods for studying and teaching palaeography.
